Focus is easily one of the hardest things for ADHDers to deal with. Working under a deadline is impossible for us, and the ideal of focus is overwhelming. I am really good at forgetting when something’s due even though I’ve been working on it FOREVER, and I’ll start to panic. My quality of work will not be as good and thought out.

That’s why this post is so late. I keep forgetting to finish it. I’ve had the idea for a long time, but it hasn’t really come out well, so right now! I’m making it get done! Woo!

Some ADHDers don’t function well without multitasking to get things accomplished. As I’m writing this, I’m talking to my cell phone and doing laundry. Man, I love and hate voice to text. The amount of editing that I have to do? I know that procrastination is definitely one of the top reasons why I struggle with getting done. It’s extremely important to find ways to work around it. Here’s a composed list of a couple of ideas I had for not procrastinating.

  1. Work on physical things while doing it.

I find that moving around is a lot easier than just staying still and working on something. So if I have to write an essay for school, walking around is really helpful. Coming up with ideas as I’m out on a walk in looking like a lunatic while talking to myself, can really help.
  2. Organize the way that is easiest to get it done.

If you work best by following outlines? Great! Do it! If you work best just throwing words on paper and then make sentences out of them, then do it! As long as you get it done, do it.
  3. Bribe yourself.

If you like coffee, promise yourself Tim Hortons if you get your essay done. If you like Marvel TV shows and a new episode just came out and you really wanna see it, make sure you get your stuff done before you watch it. (I totally don’t know what I’m talking about!)
  4. DON’T TAKE A BREAK

Just for me, I cannot take a break if I need to get things done. I will go straight to my phone, even if it is completely powered off. I stand up, do 10 jumping jacks and ESSAY again. Then it’s done.
  5. Use the Matrix

If you can’t figure out if it needs to be done, use the Eisenhower Matrix. I use it a lot, especially when planning my days out.
